4-Hour Private CCW Certification Fort Lauderdale

The most thorough way to get your Florida CWL. One-on-one with Stephen Cohen covering Florida use-of-force law, safe carry practices, drawing from concealment, and the decision-making that determines how a defensive situation plays out legally. You leave qualified for your license and prepared to carry with real competence. Florida CCW Class - 4-hour session. Private format. Do You Still Need a CCW Permit in Florida?

Florida passed permitless carry in 2023. You can carry concealed without a license in this state if you meet the legal requirements. That does not mean you should carry without training, and it does not mean the Florida CWL is irrelevant.

A Florida Concealed Weapon License gives you:

  • Reciprocity in other states, permitless carry stops at the Florida state line. 
  • Exemption from the state’s waiting period on handgun purchases under Section 790.0655(2) F.S. 
  • Documented proof of training, which matters after a defensive incident or in a law enforcement encounter
  • Legal clarity when traveling with a firearm across state lines

 

If you travel with your firearm, buy handguns regularly, or want a clean legal posture in any use-of-force situation, the CWL is still worth getting.

What the Certification Covers

Both the 2-hour and 4-hour courses meet Florida’s state-approved training requirement for CWL applicants. Course content includes:

  • Florida use-of-force law and Castle Doctrine
  • Safe storage and handling requirements
  • Concealed carry legal responsibilities
  • Live-fire qualification
  • Application process and documentation

 

The 4-hour course goes deeper on decision-making, defensive scenarios, and drawing from concealment.

How to Get Your Florida CWL After Certification

Once you complete the course, Stephen Cohen provides your certificate of training. You submit your application to the Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services with your certificate, a recent photo, and fingerprints.  Processing times vary

  • Must be 21 or older
  • U.S. citizen or permanent resident
  • No felony convictions or disqualifying legal history
  • Government-issued photo ID
  • Semi-auto pistol or revolver in good working order
  • Minimum two magazines
  • 50 rounds of factory-loaded ammunition
  • Eye and ear protection
  • Closed-toe shoes

Frequently Asked Questions

Is this class for first-time shooters?

The 4-hour course works for all experience levels. If you have never fired a handgun, call us first to discuss whether a fundamentals session before certification makes sense for you. Check out some other Fort Lauderdale firearm classes here.

Does this qualify me for a Florida CWL?

Yes. Both courses meet Florida’s state-approved training requirement for concealed weapon license applicants.

Does my Florida CWL work in other states?

Florida’s CWL is recognized in a number of other states. Permitless carry does not cross state lines. If you travel with a firearm, the license is what protects you.
